During exhibition, we also display a photograph of Hong Kong in the 1920s. The photograph shows the City of Victoria (now roughly from Sheung Wan to Wan Chai), as viewed from Kowloon Peninsula. Hong Kong was already developed as a modern city in the 1920s. However, representations of the city in the British media overseas were not always an accurate reflection of latest developments.
The film was collected by the curator. Processed by Zhao Xiang Guan, the photograph at the venue was printing on Ilford Gold Fibre Gloss to create the closest effect to gelatin silver print. The photograph effectively shows the texture of the 1920s. Don’t miss this beautifully printed big photograph during your visit.
